Andrew started his sailing career at RBYC in the 1960’s aboard the 12 foot cadet dinghies. Andrew “The Admiral” Plympton went on to a stellar career in sport and business both as a world class performer and organiser. As a sailor Andrew won many yacht races and regattas with the crowning achievement of a World E22 title. As an organiser Andrew gave his sage service to the Insurance Council of Australia, the Australian Olympic Committee, the St Kilda Football Club and the Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club. He also gave wise advice to RBYC when we had to bring the club through the complex restructure brought on by the failure of the old slipway. Andrew accepted his crippling illness with great dignity and style. Despite his severe breathing difficulties he competed in the 2023 Port Lincoln regatta on “Journey” never complaining and enjoying sailing competition with his mates. Royal Brighton Yacht Club has produced many wonderful sailors and Andrew will be remembered as one of the best.
