Report from Vice Commodore Peter Gebhardt

Dear Members

Frostbite Regatta this Sunday at RMYS
In the club’s 150th anniversary book, Don Warner reminds us of the history of the regatta…
In 1963 the inaugural event was held on the Yarra River and only involved RBYC Sabots. Eleven sabots participated and past Commodore Ron Davies won the race from the Richmond Rowing Club to the Morrell Bridge and return. In 1965, a challenge was issued to our friends at RMYS and the Frostbite Regatta between our two clubs has continued to this day. While the event started off on the Yarra, it subsequently moved to Albert Park Lake for a number of years. Currently, the event is hosted at RBYC one year, RMYS the next. The Commodores of each of the two clubs participate as do younger sailors. The prize is a bottle of muddy Yarra River water, the ‘Wee Drap ‘o Yarra’. Today the races are sailed in Quests.
A reminder that that the FINAL SMART class is this Wednesday 17 June . Details HERE

Photos from AWKR
We loved these photos of RBYC boats Serious Yahoo and Encore at the Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta last weekend. You can see from the crew photos that this was a terrific weekend. The crew of Serious Yahoo from left to right are Sally Davis, Tao Tsu, Vanessa Twigg, Katie Holroyd and Belinda Parkes. The crew of Encore are Andrea Barber, Martha Garkle, Valentino Tan, Suzie Falk, Rosie Colahan, Heidi and Karen Lechner. Encore owner and skipper Rosie Calahan has done so much for women’s sailing over the years. We are all very appreciative!

Owners of boats stored in the yard, undercroft or Sturrock Building need to get their annual storage tag. This needs to be attached to the beach trolly or in the case of kayaks/skis to a handle. The tags can be collected from the sailing office Tues - Sat (9am - 5pm). Any boats without a tag after the 16th July 2026 maybe removed.
