Commodore’s Report 24/3

Autumn is a wonderful time in Melbourne with gentle breezes and warm days. The first few weeks have, apart from the odd day here and there, been no exception. We have been blessed with ideal sailing conditions, and the Club and our sailors have been extremely busy. Over the Labour Day long weekend, the Club hosted the Opti …

Looking for Sailors to crew in the Jubilee Rudder Shield – Ballarat Yacht Club 26 April 2026

You can see from Don Warners 150th Anniversary book that the Jubilee Class has a long history at RBYC. The annual Rudder Shield is being sailed in on 26 April at Ballarat Yacht Club and we are looking for six RBYC sailors to crew two boats. There will be 5 teams altogether from 5 different yacht clubs. This is a round robin with four races and no spinnakers – just good fun. If you haven’t sailed a Jubilee before that is no impediment to having a good time (as several of us found out last year).
Proceedings start at 10:30 am with two races before lunch and two after lunch.
Contact Niesje Hees (0417 594 018) for more information (Gary Bunyard, our team Captain, will be busy sailing his 2.4 mtr in WA leading up to the event).

Copies of the 150th Anniversary book are available from reception for $60 per book.

Road and Rail for 2.4s travelling to WA for the Nationals 2-5 April 2026
As many RBYC members are well aware, travelling to a regatta is always challenging, whether it is a dingy or a keelboat regatta. Seven 2.4 mtr class boats are travelling to Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club for the Nationals, some by road and some inside a container by rail. The photo gives a pretty good idea of how much preparation and planning is involved!
Here is a link to the regatta page.

Club News

Hi everyone, The AFL will be concerned about the gap between weaker and stronger teams, as again this week, we saw some lopsided results. Fortunately, we also saw three games that featured big comebacks and close finishes. Tipsters will have a better chance to tip a perfect score this season as there are many rounds when less than nine games …
