Cerberus Trophy with BYO BBQ - Not too late to enter.
Sat 2nd May is the annual passage race down to the Cerberus wreck and back. A 1030 boat start and tower finish the race is a great event that finishes with the annual Hard Stand BBQ. BBQ is BYO and will kick off when boats get back. So if you are not already entered please do so now.
Last Sunday saw the first of the Sunday PHS Keelboat races.
With Fawkner beacon showing over 25 knots at 9am some of the smaller boats decided that a day ashore was probably a wise decision, but for those that did venture out, by the 10am start time the wind had dropped to a still fresh 15-18 kts and being a northerly, very little wave action. With the sun out, and 25 degrees it made for a perfect day's sailing.

As a result of the fresh breeze and relatively flat seas, the conditions favoured the big boats and none more so than Andy Holmes and crew on Serendipity who led from start to finish but with Wesley Thomson on L'Etoile gradually pegging them back. Unfortunately the finish line was a bit too close to catch the leader with the final margin of a minute and a half separating the two.

With everyone finishing by midday, it was then a perfect time for lunch in the members bar, followed by presentation by the Commodore, and the afternoon still free to go home and mow the grass.
We look forward to more glamour days like today.

Bliss Regatta at Royal Brighton Yacht Club is shaping up to be one of the standout events on the calendar.
Designed for competitive racing and great on-water experiences, the main fleet will be doing windward/leeward courses, but we also offer a more relaxed race in the non spinnaker division for those not so competitive. Whether you're chasing silverware or simply keen to line up against a strong fleet, this ladies sailing event is not to miss.
With entries now open, we encourage all sailors to get involved and be part of a fantastic weekend of racing and camaraderie.

ANZAC Day at RBYC
The Last Post echoed over the water during the annual ANZAC Day Service at RBYC. Following the Commodore’s address, the Vice Commodore lead the Remembrance of the Fallen. Francesca Wewer and Aiden O’Connell laid the wreaths. Thanks to everyone who participated in this moving service, including Rev Xeverie De-Leon from St Andrews Brighton, pianist Anne Robertson and bugler Niklas Soderstrom.
Brighton Historical Society Meet at RBYC
Our Bayview Room hosted 40 members of the Brighton Historical Society last Sunday. Their periodic meeting was to hear RBYC Iceberger and author Don Warner speak about his recent book, A Modern History of the Royal Brighton Yacht Club 1875-2025. Many BHS members are familiar with our club's ties to the local community in general, but were fascinated to learn more details about the club's history. A few of the attendees had been club members some years ago or had relatives who were members of RBYC. The talk brought back treasured memories for them and Don also fielded numerous questions from attendees. After the talk, many enjoyed a short tour of the Members' Lounge and the club's library before proceeding to the Cafe for a cuppa. Past Commodores Niesje Hees and Peter Strain were in attendance.
Hi everyone, We had 5 close games this week and one very concerning mental health issue on the field during the Blues vs Magpies game. In the close finishes, Carlton lost another game (88-83) to the old enemy, Collingwood, in all too familiar fashion. The Blues led by 3 goals at the final change, but the Maggies quickly erased the …

SHIPSHAPE – artist Julian Twigg
Australian Galleries, 35 Derby Street, Collingwood
OPENING NIGHT Tuesday 28 April 6pm to 8pm, MEET THE ARTIST Saturday 16 May 2pm
Resident artist Julian Twigg has included some of his works from RBYC in his latest exhibition “Shipshape”.
From the gallery website
“The title of this exhibition is a comment on what I paint and the many different shapes created by ships as they pass by. In the distance, ships appear just as shapes, especially with the sun setting or rising behind them. They are silhouetted against the background, with palettes generally yellow in the morning and red or orange as the sun sets. I am concentrating on the continual development of my artwork, experimenting with the oil paint medium, striving to improve and fully resolve artworks through colour, texture with impasto, layering, and balance.” - Julian Twigg 2026
Shipshape brings together a series of oil paintings and ceramic works grounded in direct observation of the coastal environment. Painted primarily from a boatshed in Sorrento, with additional works from Brighton and Hampton, the exhibition reflects Julian Twigg’s commitment to working on site. Recent works developed during a residency at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club further embed the practice within its maritime context.
Focusing on the sea, weather, ships, and coastal landmarks, the works capture shifting light and atmosphere across different times of year. While primarily realised in situ, paintings are later refined in the studio. The exhibition also includes ceramic tiles and sculptural barge forms inspired by vessels observed in Paris and London observed on the artists’ recent trip to Europe.
