The Colours of Sailing

Have you registered for Opening Day?

There are so many ways to interpret the Opening Day theme, The Colours of Sailing. Maybe you have team uniforms or just hats to match your spinnaker.
Use your imagination to dress your boat and / or crew. If you are staying ashore, join in anyway. All welcome - whether you are a sailor or not.
Opening Day is a long-standing tradition, with a morning ceremony followed by a “Sail Past” and a social get together afterwards. Click on the poster to register.

Philip Cormie and crew on Dreamtime Solutions would have been very happy with their second place in Div 3 of Magnetic Island Race Week.
Well done to all RBYC boats and crew including Rampallion (Geoff Adams), Joan Ellen (Tony and Jack Hennessy), along with RBYC crews on Solaire, Keep on Running (who came 2nd in Div 4) and Dragonfly (3rd in Div 3). Here is the Results link. There are great photos and videos on the Magnetic Island Facebook page.

Townsville Gals Regatta

The Colours of Sailing theme was well and truly embraced by the Townsville Gals regatta over the weekend. RBYC had five members competing; Rear Commodore Cath Hurley, Vanessa Twigg, Bronwyn McIlveen, and Past Commodore Niesje Hees sailing on Catcha Star, skippered by Katie Holroyd and dressed in orange. You can also see Martha Garkle in purple on Shazam. We all had a wonderful time with great camaraderie and beautiful sailing conditions.

Meanwhile, back in Melbourne...

There are some club members who quietly contribute. For some weeks, Garret Hebden has been supplying a bottle of quality wine as the Top Gun Award for the Wednesday Pursuit races. As an RBYC member, Garrett enjoys supporting the club in this way, to help the boat owners enjoy their sail even more with a little reward of a nice bottle of wine . Garret’s business, Better Bathrooms and Kitchens was established 29 years ago, and is Kitchen and Bathroom renovation company with a showroom in Essendon, continuing to help people renovate their homes all over Melbourne. Further information can be found online at www.justbetter.com.au
Last week’s grateful winner of the Top Gun Award was Pard Tan and crew on Leopard.

Master Plan Update

We will be including a regular update in this newsletter to keep all members up to date.
Peter Maddison (Dr Design RMIT, B Arch RMIT, Life Fellow RAIA) is making a huge difference to progress, and we thought members would like to know more about him….
Peter is the Director of Maddison Architects, an award-winning architectural practice. He has a unique appreciation of architecture manifest in the hundreds of projects undertaken, awards received and involvement with the profession. He is also the original host of Grand Designs Australia.
As a 15-year Aquatic Member of the RBYC, he has agreed to help steer the club through a Masterplan process with the selection of an architectural firm via a Request For Tender process (RFT).
The successful Architectural firm is to undertake the Masterplan and ultimately design and manage the construction of an upgrade to the on-land built infrastructure at the RBYC.
Progress is proceeding based on the successful fundraising to date with the RFT occurring in Oct 2026 and the Masterplan work anticipated commencing early in 2027.
