Now that the result of the incoming committee is resolved, without the need for an election, my time as Commodore and on General Committee is at an end. I hand over the responsibility to Niesje Hees and the incoming committee and I am very confident that your Club is in good hands. Those that know Niesje know that she is conscientious and hard working. Supported by the new Vice Commodore Peter Demura who has done a remarkable job as Treasurer. I thank the outgoing committee for their efforts, we have worked well together and come out of the last few tumultuous years in good shape. Thanks to retiring Vice Commodore John Mooney for his contribution and his experience not only on the sailing front but also building development and maintenance and also retiring Kalpana Raghunathan for her great support in resolving contentious issues. It is pleasing to see the new members Neil Sargeant and Nick Barber put their hands up to join General Committee and support the Club. The return of Peter Coleman and the continuing support of Peter Gebhardt, Murray Cowdell, Cath Hurley, Marnie Irving and Club Captain Brett Heath we should be grateful they are putting their time in for RBYC. With the ongoing negotiations with Parks Victoria over the seabed lease and the further need for urgent dredging within that marina, I will continue to remain available to make sure these issues are resolved. Also planning to stay on the Assets Sub-Committee with the longer-term planning of marina attenuator replacement and marina extension, plus the planned forecourt redevelopment with a circular driveway which should improve delivery safety, Club access for taxis, rideshare, elderly amenity and weddings. I encourage all members join us at the Annual General Meeting on 20th September even though you all should get full details of the Club in the Annual Report out soon.

****Notice for the owners of kayaks, paddle boards and surf skis****
There are still a number of owners of kayaks, paddle boards and surf ski owners that need to come forward and let us know what property is theirs so that they can be issued a tag. Kayaks etc without tags will be getting moved in the coming weeks so those who do not claim their equipment will no longer have easy access. Please contact the Sailing Office to confirm if this applies to you.

Winter Series Race 4: 17th September

RBYC Laser Squadron members represented the club
Three RBYC Laser Squadron members represented the club at Sail Mordi Aug 27th & 28th. Four light races 5-7knts on Saturday. Four medium races 12-18knts on Sunday. A well run regatta with 47 dinghies across several classes including 13 Lasers. The Laser fleet young guns showed off there class with several recently returning from Europe and US. They have definitely jumped in speed since last season and looking like a very competitive force this year. Amongst the Laser Radials James Lucas narrowly edged out Hamish Gilsenan for the win and closely followed by RBYCs Tony Mcphail in third! It was really tight racing and Tony sailed superbly to take it to the young guns. Well done! RBYCs Nick Ede and Damon Cook also performed competitively in a great pre-season hit out!
The Laser Squadron has a busy season planned out including Club sailing on Sundays and Thursday nights and numerous competitive and social regattas. If you are interested in getting involved just let the sailing office know.

Some boats are looking for permanent crew – but to begin with, why not come and try sailing on an Etchells during our Winter series (remaining racing days are 20 August, 3 September and 17 September). You do need some sailing experience, but keelboat or dinghy experience is fine – …
