News From GC - Why Volunteer

As I write this report, I reflect on the weekend. Well done to the boats that went racing and to the Race Management team. The weather did play havoc with cancellation of the second race of the Victorian Keelboat championships, (Range Series) on Saturday due to nasty wind and sea state, but one race was completed. There is a small …

Take someone new out sailing

SKIPPERS: We are getting many enquiries for people to take up the SailPass option here at RBYC esp for twilight sailing. It would be great if you could list yourselves as being able to take them. The first step is to list your boat as looking for crew using the sign on app using the Add a listing - Looking for Crew button. Then you can search for those looking to go sailing via the List Available Crew button. Please also let the sailing office know that you are able to take SailPass people. Remember this is not only a great way to introduce the club to potential new members but a great way to find new crew for yourself.

Victorian Championships (old Range Series) Review

Despite the wind being a bit fresh, a good size fleet took to the water for the first of the Victorian Championships. It was our turn to run things and our team of race management volunteers, headed by RO Rod McKenna, did a magnificent job in challenging conditions. Unfortunately the wind ended up getting the better of the day and the RO abandoned racing after the first race was completed. All boats arrived safely back at their respect clubs. Next Victorian Championships will be 10 Feb 2024 hosted by SYC.

OTB News

Another fantastic week of OTB sailing.
On Thursday night the Laser fleet had a brilliant sprint racing session in a 15-20knt southerly with awesome waves for surfing down-wind. A little chilly but the hiking kept us warm!
On Sunday we had a perfect days sailing with a sunny, warm, 9knts of breeze. Over 20 boats out in our growing OTB fleet including 13 Lasers, 3 RS100s and 5 intrepid Opti green fleet sailors who enjoyed 4 races. Great course and starts run by Paul Pascoe.
The Laser fleet racing was extremely tight with only a minute separating first and last boats and several photo finishes. Phil Sloan and Simon Lynch had a couple of cracking races and we welcome back Grant Dow who rejoins the fleet after a break for 2 seasons.
More fun next week with Thursday night Sprint racing at 6pm. This Sunday there is no OTB racing.
New sailors are always welcome to join the fun!
