Time flies by quick these days! The 23/24 sailing season is almost here. The calendar will be out very soon. Time to get yourself, crew and boat prepared for the new season.
|
|
For all boats there will be many mandatory tasks to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable season ahead. Here is a checklist of these tasks:
|
· Skippers Briefing - September 6th or 13th 1830-2000
A must-attend event for a representative of each boat – register here

· MOB – Do you have a plan? – Have you rehearsed it recently?
|

Our fantastic Race management team are always looking for volunteers each week - Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday – why not volunteer when you are not racing? Contact the sailing office to let them know you are available.

Race Entry and Sign on: What's the difference ?
|
It has been brought to my attention that there is a bit of confusion with entering a race and signing on boat and crew. Please note that signing on DOES NOT mean you have entered the race/series. Race/Series entry is a separate process and is done via a race entry link or you can contact the office. Remember an entry must be in at least 24 hrs before the race to allow office time to process the entry.
The Sign on App is used on the day to Sign on the boat and Crew. This tells the Race Management team would is planning to race and who is on board. This MUST be done by all fleets before leaving the marina/beach. If you don't have the Sign On App on your phone then please contact the office.

Safety Compliance for racing
|
|
All skippers are required to submit a self-audited Safety Compliance Form for their vessel before the start of the season. ( 6th October). Please check what the requirements are for each race via the calendar and send the appropriate completed form to the sailing office via the File Upload option.
|
|
RBYC will be starting independent auditing from October or you can contact an auditor directly yourself to have this arranged. Please visit the below link for full details on what is required

Staff Required
|
|
The sailing office is still looking for full time staff for both Sailing Coordinator and OTB Coordinator positions. If you or someone you know is interested then please contact Colin for a Job Description on [email protected]. Please be aware that both of these positions require weekend work.

Monthly Winter racing: In what turned out to be a beautiful day a fleet of Lasers took to the water for their monthly winter racing. With a 5-10 kt westerly 10 lasers, including 3-4 from visiting clubs (they have heard about the great Sunday racing we hold) completed 5 sprint races and all sailors come off the water happy after a successful day. As with all fleets the Sunday Summer racing will be starting in October and we are expecting the fleet to grow. Following conclusion of the summer pool competition last week, the next table games are about to begin at RBYC. Open to all membership categories, no entry fee and entry sheets will be on the Billiards Notice Board this week. The more the merrier, a good chance to meet new people within the Club.

Due to adverse weather in southern England (very strong winds) we have been unable to attempt our English Channel swim. Our boat captain is hoping we can go early tomorrow.

On the field: in the opening match, the Western Bulldogs had their kicking boots on this week and thumped Richmond by 55 points at Marvel Stadium. On Saturday, the Hawks surprised Collingwood by 32 points - a loss by the Magpies that few saw coming. The defeat did not hurt the Maggies' minor premiership aspirations as Port Adelaide lost a close game to the Cats at Geelong on Saturday night. After their team record-setting win streak the Power are reeling from four consecutive losses.
