Today I’m reflecting on the power of sailing to forge friendships and teamwork after a full three day regatta on Port Phillip in the middle of a Melbourne winter. 30 + year members lunch
|

|
|
The annual lunch for those with more than 30 years of RBYC membership was a great success organized by Bruce McBriar. Alan Woodward acted as MC, with elite sailor Andrew Plympton interviewing Gold Medalist Mark Turnbull.
|
|
Attendees were entertained and enlightened - a good reminder of the depth of sailing experience at our club, as well as the strong camaraderie of the long-term members.

Frostbite Regatta
|
The annual event between RBYC and RMYS takes place this Sunday 18th June. This race has a long history where the General Committee Members of the two clubs got into Cadet dinghies' and raced each other for the the "Old Bottle". Although both clubs are out to win the emphasis is on fun and getting the two clubs together. They now race in the RS Quest which provide a number of challenges so it should be good to watch. Over the the last few years the event also includes racing between the clubs Junior fleets to make it an even better day. Things kick off 10am with the juniors racing first then they hand over to the seniors. So come down and show your support for both groups and help with launching and retrieval of the boats.

Olympic Campaign Fund raising
|
Some of our young elite sailors are training for the Olympics which requires a considerable cost outlay. The Australian Sports Foundation has provision for setting up fund raising pages for this purpose, which enable tack deductible donations.
|
Periodically we will provide links in this newsletter to the fund raising pages of club members. Please consider donating to help them on their sailing journey.

Club member Sophie Jackson has a fund raising page set up for her 470 Campaign with Angus Higgins.

On the field: the King's Birthday round of football saw eight games played over five days. On Thursday night, St Kilda spoiled Lance Franklin's 350th AFL game, winning by 14 points at the SCG. The game was noteworthy as it marked Buddy's 350th game (a milestone reached by only 21 other players in VFL/AFL history). In addition, Franklin kicked 2 goals to move past Doug Wade into fourth place on the all-time goal-kicking list. FYI, here is the top 10: 1. Tony Lockett 1360, 2. Gordon Coventry 1299, 3.
