IMPORTANT -Bike Storage.

We have now confirmed with a local bike charity to collect pushbikes that are stored in the undercover car park that have not been claimed and have a white owners tag attached. They are booked in to collect them 14th March If you have a bike and have not yet collected your tag please visit club reception.
Please remember you must be a senior member to be eligible to use the bike storage area.

If you have an old tag you must get it replaced with a new tag or you bike may be removed

Hard Stand access over long weekend

For those that are not aware RBYC is hosting the Etchells Victorian State Titles over the long weekend (10 - 13th March). This event has attracted a number of boats from other clubs and as such our Hardstand area is going to have more boats than usual. Most of the visiting boats are coming on their road trailers and will be store on theses trailers. The boats are coming in over this week. We have had to do a bit of juggling to accommodate them all and as such there is restricted access. For owners of vessels on the hardstand please be aware that the agility to launch and retrieve will be restricted especially on Saturday 11th and Monday 13th. As this is a wet regatta the Etchells will be left in the water after racing and will be located in the pond and main arm as well as other locations in the marina

Twilight Race 8th March

International Women's Day 8 March 2023 – a twilight race and a big milestone for women at RBYC
We all know why 1983 was a big year for sailing in Australia and for RBYC – but there is another reason too! 40 years ago this month, women were accepted into the club as senior members. Take the opportunity to invite some more women onto your crew and come back to the club to celebrate. We’ll be running a slide show featuring some wonderful RBYC women. Remember even if the weather does not allow racing come down to the club for dinner anyway and have a great evening with friends

Serious Yahoo success at Women in Sailing Challenge

On Sunday 5 March RBYC entry Serious Yahoo competed in the Women in Sailing Challenge at Sandringham, taking home the Doris Little trophy for PHS on countback. The team also came first on AMS. Fluky winds made for challenging sailing with 26 knots dropping to 3 and changing direction to a heading wind at the finish. Here is a link …

Etchells Victoria State Championships (11-13 March)

The Melbourne Etchells Fleet is thrilled to be hosting the 2023 State Titles this coming weekend. John Bertrand (AUS1395) will be one of the competitors contesting the event, on the back of his win in the Nationals in Adelaide. John will have some stiff competition, including Chris Hampton (AUS1466) winner of the 2022 Nationals, and Robin van Deussen (AUS1395) who is travelling from South Australia to defend his 2022 Vic States title.

There is a proud history of Etchells Sailing at RBYC, and there is a link another America’s Cup skipper. Menace XI (AUS890) owned by Nick Chapman was originally owned by Dennis Connor, always an enthusiastic Etchells sailor.
|
|
Menace XI was launched in 1992. The boat was fully optimised and painted yellow which was apparently the paint Dennis used on his Americas Cup boat. Nick Chapman purchased the boat in 1997 and did well in the boat winning the Victorian State titles in 1998. Nick sold the boat in 1999 and it has had several owners since. Then in November 2022 Nick bought the boat back again, some 23 years later.

ORCV Rip Tour of Port Phillip Heads – New Date
|
“The Rip” is the narrow entrance to Port Phillip, where underwater reefs limit the navigable entrance to just 0.6nm and provides a restricted tidal flow between the ocean and Port Phillip, where over 4,000 commercial vessels transit annually.
|

Once a year, the ORCV runs an on-water tour from a large ferry looking at the navigation aids, tides, how to and which channels to use, radio protocols etc for a safe transit of the heads.
