IMPORTANT -Bike Storage.

Push Bike storage in the under cover carpark is for RBYC boat owners only with a boat in the marina or hardstand. Bikes must be stored in the allocated spots and have a RBYC registration tag attached. These tags are obtained from reception and you must attach them to your bike.
|
|
There any many bikes that are not being used and we have new members wishing to store their bikes. Any bike that does not have a tag by the end of February will be removed and given to charity.
|
|
To get your tag please pop into the main reception and they will procedure one for you. Please also remember bikes are stored at owners risk.

Over the years, the Icebergers have become a very important part of our club – we appreciate their commitment and comradery and are in awe of their achievements nationally and internationally. To qualify as an Iceberger requires resilience, fortitude and involvement with likeminded people. This coming Friday night 19 icebergers are being inducted. This is the largest induction in many years reflecting the growing popularity of icebergering and the awareness of the terrific group at RBYC. The inducted Icebergers will be awarded their certificates and be recognised on the honor boards. The Icebergers international swimmer of the year for 2022 will be announced.

Vehicles on the Hard Stand

It has come to our attention that a few members are parking their vehicles on the hardstand while they are working on their boats. The hard stand does not have parking access and only service or contractor vehicles are allowed to park while they are attending a job. This is a working area with boats being moved so full and clear access around the boats and the cranes is required at all times. Members are welcome to use vehicles to drop off items but then relocate them to the club carpark. Please also not that are marked NO PARKING areas so please keep these clear at all times.

With the Etchells Vic State Championships coming up on the 10th of March, we have a number of boats coming to the club for the regatta and they will be here the week prior for training. All of these will need to be accommodated on the hard stand. To allow this to happen we need to relocate the club Pacers and Quests to the parking area in front of the Jock Sturrock building. As a result parking in this area will be limited from Saturday 4th - Tuesday 14th March. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

BLISS Quest Experience
As part of the leadup the end of April BLiSS female skippers regatta, the first of two “Quest Experience” days supported by Yacht Racing Services Association (YRSA) was held on Saturday 25 February.
Keelboat sailors often say that the best way to hone your skills is in a one design dinghy. This hands-on opportunity was designed to put theory into practice and improve competitors’ sailing confidence as well as race tactics. Coaches Laura Thomson and Chloe Fisher provided a day of on-shore theory and discussion as well as on-water practical experience. The conditions on Saturday were challenging with the breeze ranging from light to fresh.
Participants enjoyed the day and let us know they learned a lot from it, regardless of a wide range of experience. We look forward to welcoming a larger group for the second session on 18 March.

International Women's Day 8 March 2023 – a twilight race and a big milestone for women at RBYC
We all know why 1983 was a big year for sailing in Australia and for RBYC – but there is another reason too! 40 years ago this month, women were accepted into the club as senior members. There will be more about this in the coming weeks with several opportunities to celebrate this milestone. Next week’s twilight race falls on International Women’s Day. Take the opportunity to invite some more women onto your crew and come back to the club to celebrate. We’ll be running a slide show featuring some wonderful RBYC women

2.4mR in the Sailing Press

RBYC has developed a very nice little fleet of the mini keel boat, the 2.4mR, over recent years. There is a lot of energy in the class and when the National Championships were held in Tasmania in early February, eight skippers arranged to take their boats to Hobart for the event.

ORCV Rip Tour of Port Phillip Heads – New Date
|
“The Rip” is the narrow entrance to Port Phillip, where underwater reefs limit the navigable entrance to just 0.6nm and provides a restricted tidal flow between the ocean and Port Phillip, where over 4,000 commercial vessels transit annually.

Once a year, the ORCV runs an on-water tour from a large ferry looking at the navigation aids, tides, how to and which channels to use, radio protocols etc for a safe transit of the heads.
