Saturday was the last of the Victorian Championships (Range Series). It had a great turn out with approx 18 boats in each division. RBYC was represented. Reverie, Cartouche, Rush, BKT Jamhu, Another Chapter & Jaffa in DIV 1. Caledonia, True Colours, Foxy, Wild child and Flying Fox in DIV 3

This Wednesday is the end of our twilight racing season. To help celebrate the end of the season we not only invite boat owners to join in the racing but invite all members to come to the club for dinner.

Welcome Mohamad
|
|
|
|
We welcome Mohamad to the role of OTB coordinator. Mohamad will be looking after the DSC training and OTB activities with the departure of Laura . Mohamad comes to us after working as the administrator/Instructor at the Boat Shed and instructing with clubs around the bay. Mohamad is from Sweden where he spent over 5 years teaching and running a variety of water sports at summer camps. Mohmand is an AS qualified Instructor of Dinghy and keelboat training . We look forward to him helping to continue the growth in youth sailing and OTB racing as well as adults learn to sail programs. Please say hi when you see him around the club and make him welcome.

George Mac Regatta Wrap up
|
|
|
|
Two completely different but equally challenging days – with the wind gusting to 20 knots for the final race on day 1, and a steady 4-7 knots on days 2, with lots of shifts in direction. The cream still rose to the top and the race management team was up to the challenge. It was wonderful to see competitors and support teams from so many different clubs. Three classes ran their States in conjunction with the regatta, the Aero’s, RS100s and 2.4s, while the Lasers also enjoyed terrific racing with a strong fleet. The Race Management Team, volunteers and the Sailing Office are to be congratulated for three successful regattas over three consecutive weekends. Here is a link to the George Mac results. Congratulations to all competitors, and especially RBYC winners Michael O’Brien (Aero 6), David Williamson (RS100) and Neil Patterson (2.4).

Youth Sail Vic 2023 Coaching Clinic and Regatta to our young sailors who may be interested in participating. This event is a great opportunity for young sailors to receive expert coaching and compete in exciting regattas.
|

The clinic offers a unique opportunity for young sailors to develop their skills and technique under the guidance of experienced coaches. We have a range of classes available, including Opti, Minnow, LT Windsurfer, Techno, 293, Wind Foil, Wing Foil, Open Skiff, ILCA, International 420, and 29er, so there's something for everyone.

The regattas will be held in the beautiful waters of Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club and will provide an excellent opportunity for young sailors to compete against other sailors of their age group and skill level. The Australian Sailing event promises to be a fun and exciting experience that your members won't want to miss.

It was great to make it to the southern tip of South America yesterday without problems. No swimming (yet!) but the hiking opportunities are excellent here prior to the start of the cruise on Tuesday.
|

Tipping: very big congratulations to my good friend the Grumpy Swimmer, who blitzed it this week, tipping all 9 games correctly! That's no mean feat on a week when the average score was 4.8. Grumpy's hot tipping has vaulted him to the top of our overall leaderboard on 15 points, equal with Maggie's 23 and one point ahead of Super Gilly. Grumpy is the first winner this season of a $20.00 club dining credit.

On the field: the Blue Baggers are back in town (for now at least) after their hard fought win over reigning premiers Geelong last Thursday night. The Lions bounced back from their heavy opening round loss to surprise the Dees by 11 points. North Melbourne made it 2 wins straight over the Perth teams, narrowly beating Freo by a single point at Perth Stadium, after beating WCE a week ago.

Comfortable wins were secured by Collingwood, Sydney, Essendon and Richmond over Port, Hawthorn, Gold Coast and Adelaide respectively.
|

St Kilda surprised a lot of people by easily defeating the Western Bulldogs.West Coast showed that they will do better in season 23, when they beat the visiting GWS Giants for their first win.
|
|
Few of us would have predicted that the Cats & Bulldogs would be winless after 2 rounds.

ORCV Rip Tour of Port Phillip Heads – New Date

“The Rip” is the narrow entrance to Port Phillip, where underwater reefs limit the navigable entrance to just 0.6nm and provides a restricted tidal flow between the ocean and Port Phillip, where over 4,000 commercial vessels transit annually.

Once a year, the ORCV runs an on-water tour from a large ferry looking at the navigation aids, tides, how to and which channels to use, radio protocols etc for a safe transit of the heads.
