This weekend the club hosted the Etchells Victorian State titles. We were blessed with the weather and had 3 great days of racing. Many thanks to our race management team, jury and staff for all their hard work ensuring the regatta was a success both on and off the water. There was terrific feedback from competitors – looking forward to the Etchells Worlds in 2025.

Many of our keelboats raced to King Island – well done to all RBYC boats and crews and especially to Another Chapter for their excellent results, winning the regatta overall!
|
|
Our junior and youth program has grown steadily under the guidance of Laura. This weekend we had 6 Optimist dinghies representing the club in the green fleet at the state titles. Great to see participation growing – a strong youth program will lead to a strong club.
|
|
Our busy March continues with regattas for the VXOne States next weekend and the George Mac regatta the week after. An exciting time of year for sailing at RBYC.

Carparking Restriction 19th March

As part of our aim to support the local community we are hosting the Recycled Regatta which is run by Brighton North Rotary on the 19th March. The parking area in front of the Sturrock Building will be closed from 5pm Saturday 19th until 5pm Sunday 19th to accommodate this event. Barriers will be in place and we kindly ask that all vehicles have been moved by 5pm Saturday. The undercover and top carparks will still be avavibale.

The sailing office is losing two of its staff this weekend.
Chad Humphrey (Sailing Coordinator) is moving on to a role with ORCV help run their racing. We wish Chad all the best. We know he will appreciate the opportunity to go sailing on weekends and we will see him around the club.
|
Laura Thompson (OTB Coordinator) is heading to Sydney to follow her dream of one day representing Australia in the Olympics. We look forward to following her progress! Laura will always be welcome at the club both on and off the water.

Another Chapter wins at King Island
|

Another Chapter, Neil Sargeant’s Beneteau 44.7, has won the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria’s slow and fluctuating Melbourne to King Island Yacht Race, while Paul Buchholz’s Extasea took line honours.
|
|
Neil can breathe easy now after an extremely close race between the top three overall, decided under AMS. Just 11 seconds decided the winner from Scarlet Runner (Rob Date) and Solera (Stuart Richardson), which placed second and third respectively.
|
|
Sargeant, who was surprised when told Another Chapter had won, gave a good synopsis of the 114 nautical mile race that started off Queenscliff at 5pm on Friday, “The worst of it was bobbing up and down going nowhere – and backwards - for eight hours,” he said.
|
|
“The best part was coming into Grassy (where the race finishes) on the wind in a nice breeze. The crew was on the rail, we were fully powered up and going like a dream. We finished while it was still daylight (at 7.12pm).”
|

ORCV Rip Tour of Port Phillip Heads – New Date
|
“The Rip” is the narrow entrance to Port Phillip, where underwater reefs limit the navigable entrance to just 0.6nm and provides a restricted tidal flow between the ocean and Port Phillip, where over 4,000 commercial vessels transit annually.
|

Once a year, the ORCV runs an on-water tour from a large ferry looking at the navigation aids, tides, how to and which channels to use, radio protocols etc for a safe transit of the heads.
