Seabed Lease with Parks Victoria
|
|
As you are no doubt aware the Club’s marina is governed by our lease with Parks Victoria for the seabed under the marina which expires 23rd April 2023 i.e. next year which means only 9 months to go. The General Committee has been negotiating for the renewal for a further 21 years of the said lease for over two years and recently have had more serious discussions. Parks Victoria have advised the Club that the lease has been deemed to be resolved by Direct Negotiation, which effectively means that only RBYC will be considered for this particular lease. Which is good news in that the future of the Club’s marina lease is secure.

However, until that lease has been finalised, the Club will only be in a position to offer annual licences for marina pens and hardstand sites. It will not be able to offer any longer-term leases or licences.
|
|
Once the seabed lease with Parks Victoria is finalised the General Committee will notify all boat owning members of the available options.
|
The Club is upgrading our records and all licence renewals will require copies of insurance to accompany renewal applications.
|
On the 19th June the Past Commodores Ron Davies, David Bingham, John Spencer, Alan Woodward, Paul Jackson gathered for lunch to get an update from myself, Vice Commodore John Mooney and Niesje Hees on General Committee activities and for their feedback. Having now been in the role for nearly two years it is with great respect that I recognise each and everyone’s experience, energy and time in their efforts for our Club. Great to get their opinions and get an even better understanding that each has a different skill set, all making a significant contribution. Unfortunate apologies from Wendy Luck (COVID), Paul Pascoe and Paul Woodman, travelling. Hopefully I will get invited back in the future.

July 2022 Frostbite Cruise
Three boats made their there way to Melbourne City Marina, on a very cold couple of days, although the wind was reasonably light.
Nimrod II ( Alison and Peter Gebhardt)went up on Saturday, where Boomaroo (Tom Hinton)joined them later in the afternoon.
Saffron went to Melbourne City Marina on Sunday for lunch, with 6 cruisers (Kathy de Garis, Brian Drummond, Jenny and Grant Collins, with Geoff Brewster and Barbara Burns hosting on Saffron) enjoying a pleasant sail , with a motor up the river.
We were met at Docklands by Will and Pam Merritt, Robina and Brenton Smith, and Alison Toms partner who all drove up from Brighton.
We enjoyed a pleasant sharing lunch with delicious deserts. The silly hat competition was won by Pam Merritt. Alison Gebhardt was chosen to pick the silly hat as she is the youngest member of the group.

The Cruising Committee is setting up a What’sApp Group to enable members to let everyone know if they have a plan to cruise and would like some company, even if it’s a day outing and general communications.
|
It requires you to download the App to your phone. You need to let me know if you’d like to join, text is fine, and I’ll join you up. It’s opt in so not all CG members will elect to join.
I use WhatsApp for a number of groups but I don’t have alerts activated as a conversation I’m not involved it means lots of dings I don’t need to hear, but I do check regularly. I recommend this but you might want to be alerted.

On the field: in the late game, Fremantle has just held on to defeat the Power by 8 points at Perth Stadium. The win keeps the Dockers in the top 4. St Kilda upset Carlton on Friday night by 15 points to keep their finals hopes alive, while Sydney surprisingly lost to Essendon on Saturday afternoon. Carlton kicked very poorly in their game versus the Saints, missing numerous set shots for goal in the third quarter alone, leading to a woeful total of 10.18.78. St Kilda meanwhile made the most of their opportunities, booting 11.3 after quarter-time to keep in touch with the top 8. Brisbane needed to bounce back after their disappointing game versus Melbourne last week and they did so, recording a 41-point victory over the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, last Thursday night. The loss pushes the Bulldogs back to 10th but they are still poised to challenge for a place in the final 8. The task for the Gold Coast and Port Adelaide is much tougher after both teams lost close games this week. The Suns looked to have the better of Collingwood on Saturday night at Metricon Stadium. They led by 14 points with 10 minutes remaining but the Magpies dug deep and kicked 3 goals in 6 minutes to take the lead. They were able to protect their advantage, recording their sixth straight win in the process.

Geelong is quietly building a strong claim to be regarded as a genuine premiership contender - they dismantled a hapless North Melbourne on Saturday night and recorded a thumping 112-point win. The win leaves the Cats firmly in second place on the ladder, just a game behind Melbourne. The Demons meanwhile didn't have things all their own way in their game versus the Crows at Adelaide Oval, but after a close first half, they moved ahead in the second half to win by 29 points. Richmond pulled away in the final term today to beat an improving West Coast by 35 points, while GWS accounted for Hawthorn in very wet conditions at Giants' Stadium.
