Debbie Jonker – General Committee The boating lifestyle attracts me because no experience on any day on the water or in a marina is ever the same! The water changes colour or temperature, the wind changes far too regularly too. In Victoria at Wilson’s Prom we were so cold last June that we jumped into beds early , fully clothed …

WASZP Victorian Championship

11 WAZSPS come to RBYC to compete in the Vic Championships. The weather was fantastic for going to the beach but not so great for foiling. Day 1 finally got underway just after 1330 when the sea breeze finally arrived, but still very light so foiling was tricky. Pau Pascoe (RO) did however managed to get in 4 races for the day. Day was even lighter and after two no foiling races the boats were sent back to the beach where the fleet decide to call it quits. All the sailors had a great time both on and off the water.

Cath Hurley says “The Winners were a Blairgowrie team Skippered by Laura Harding who’s currently coming fourth in the World’s in the 49ers in Lanzarote. In second place was a Sydney team including Vanessa Dudley who’s completed 25 Sydney to Hobarts. So we were very happy to come in with a third place”.

Cruising Group News

MARCH GUEST SPEAKER DINNER:
Last Friday evening, an excellent turnout of around sixty diners turned out to hear Past Commodore Peter Strain give an overview of his last winter’s cruise with his son Richard out on the Great Barrier Reef, visiting 25 reefs and 15 islands, from Lady Elliot Island in the south to just beyond Townsville and Magnetic Island in the north. Peter showed a short movie that he had created, showing some amazing sequences of underwater reef life, others of pods of whales, some surfacing right alongside It’s a Privilege, and aerial drone shots of their boat amongst the myriad of isolated reefs. Many of the locations they visited were little frequented, which made for an unforgettable experience of sailing, diving and fishing in Australia's greatest marine environment. A very enjoyable evening, and most came away from it feeling somewhat envious. Thanks Peter.
