A reminder that the presentations of the race results on a Saturday take place in the members bar as soon as possible after racing (appox 4pm). We hope all crews will join in and help support the winners and those that just missed out. Its a great way to catch up, discuss tactics and enjoy your club. The members bar will be open for bar service from 3pm.

This Friday, July 15th, there will be a Cruiser's social dinner in the Members Bar after the Friday announcements and draw, in lieu of the usual 3rd Friday Guest Speaker Dinner. Dinner will be a la carte. So please book and come along for a convivial evening in good company. As usual, bookings should be made with Mandy at reception ( phone: 9592 3093, or email: [email protected] ) by the close of business tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday July 13th), so that the club can ensure catering capacity.

On the field: it was a good, tough game between Geelong-Melbourne to commence this round last Thursday night at the Cattery. The Cats exacted some revenge over the Demons by kicking away in the final term to win by 28 points. Melbourne was still in the hunt until the midway point of the last quarter but Geelong was not to be denied. Their win sees them take over first place ahead of the Dees and Fremantle. The latter recorded a solid away win over St Kilda on Saturday night to keep pace and leave the Sainters sitting outside the 8. After the determination shown by St Kilda a week ago vs Carlton, their effort against the Dockers was a big disappointment. On Friday night Sydney burst out of the blocks, shell shocking the Bulldogs and setting up a 53-point victory. Collingwood had to work really hard against likely wooden-spooners North Melbourne - their narrow 7-point victory was their seventh win in a row.

The most exciting game of this round saw the Gold Coast Suns stage a stunning comeback to defeat Richmond by 2 points at Metricon Stadium. The Tigers had a 40-point lead in the second quarter and still led by 17 with under 4 minutes remaining. The Suns however managed to kick 2 goals in the last 75 seconds, including the winner after the siren from a set shot! The win still means they have a chance to make the 8 should those just ahead of them stumble - Gold Coast is certainly getting better.

Essendon recorded a 10-point win over favored Brisbane at the Gabba this afternoon. The Lions entered the game with a number of their stars out injured or ruled out with Covid, but this is not to take away from the Bombers who led the entire way by between 1-3 goals - the Lions never managed to get in front in this one. The loss leaves Brisbane one game behind the leading trio of Geelong, Melbourne & Freo, but still in fourth spot. In other games, Port Adelaide crushed GWS by 55 points, while Hawthorn ended their losing streak with a 32-point win over Adelaide. Sunday's late-game from Perth was a 'must win' for Carlton and they got the 4 points despite some nervous patches in the second quarter. Carlton kicked the first 5 goals before West Coast managed to score - the Blues' big lead was whittled back to only 10 points by halftime. In the second half, however, it was one-way traffic as Carlton raced away to record a percentage-boosting 63 -point win. On the upside for West Coast, the Eagles did celebrate Josh Kennedy's 700th goal as an Eagle in this game - a mighty milestone.
