A recent example of the importance of signing on your crew

Last Saturday a crew member was injured on a keelboat just before the start of Saturday’s race. Thankfully, the injuries have proven to be minor. The boat radioed the Tower and returned to the marina where the injured crew member was picked up in a golf buggy and taken ashore, by which time his partner (who had been contacted) had arrived at the club to take him for the necessary medical attention.
This is the reason we ask you to sign on all your crew with the correct next of kin details.
The requirement to sign on your crew is not because the club is keen on bureaucracy, but it is to help support club members when they need it the most. If you are having problems updating your crew list, please contact the sailing office for assistance.
And please don’t assume that it won’t happen to you – the skipper in this case has sailed for 45 years without incident and the injured crew member was very experienced, so it can happen to anyone at any time.

Congratulations to John Bertrand (Triad2020) and Chris Hampton (Tango) and their crew for placing in the top 5 in the hard-fought NSW Etchells States at Pittwater over the weekend. Triad placed 3rd and Tango 5th, with not much room between the top placings.
