Well it is that time of the year when certain activities at the Club slow up, in particular the centre course racing, which is having a break for a couple of months. That of course does not mean the sailing will stop altogether. There will be keel boat racing conducted from the tower and some Sunday OTB racing. Watch the …

Commodores Challenge - RBYC Wins
Congratulations to the RBYC team of Chloe Fisher, Lallie Leckie, Charlotte Wormald and Alex McDonald on their success at the 2023 Commodores Challenge for Women in Sailing at Sandringham. SYC put on a terrific four race regatta on a gloomy Sunday. SYC Commodore Sue Bowes invited RBYC Commodore Niesje Hees out on a rhib to watch the racing - it was clear that all five teams clearly had a great time. The RBYC team took a couple of races to get into their stride but improved in each race, with a 3,2,1,1 result, sufficient for the overall win.

On the field: we certainly saw a lot of upsets this week. Hawthorn's dramatic come-from-behind win over St Kilda was one of them. The Saints opened up a game-high 20-point lead early in the last quarter, only to see the Hawks kick the last five goals to run out winners by 10 points. The turning point came with just under 7 minutes to play and the Saints leading by 14 points. St Kilda's Jack Higgins fumbled a mark he should have taken from dead in front, which was rushed through for a behind. The Hawks made them pay, kicking 4 goals in the last few minutes to get the win. Another unexpected result saw GWS beat Geelong at the Cattery, by 7 points. It was Toby Green'e 200th game for the Giants and he played a big role in helping his team secure this win - GWS took a 17-point lead at the half and while Geelong were able to narrow the gap to just 2 points late in the final term, the Giants held them out. The Western Bulldogs were favored to defeat the Gold Coast Suns at TIO Stadium in Darwin on Saturday night. The Bullies started well by kicking the first 3 goals of the match, but the Suns roared back to kick 8 of the next 9 goals to set up their 7-point victory. Melbourne hosted Freo at the MCG on Saturday but it was the visitors who emerged victorious in another close game. The Dockers have done well at the MCG versus Melbourne in the past and they did it again, recording a 7-point win....MORE
