Welcome to RBYC Abby Girl
We moved from Canada to Australia the end of August last year. Within 2 months we had bought a sailboat, bought a home, and a car. We are new to Bayside and are enjoying what it has to offer both of us.
Dave, ‘that Canadian guy’ you see working on the boat had a career in the Canadian ski industry, retiring 18 months ago from a role as President of a Rocky Mountain ski resort in Jasper, Alberta. As Dave will tell you, ‘Dad taught me to sail when I was eight years old and it became a life long passion. I owned several boats over the years and refurbished two wooden boats which was a rewarding experience.’
Ellen is a dual citizen, born in Canada, moving to Melbourne for work as a geologist the 80’s, lived in Melbourne for 35 years before moving back to Canada for a decade. Now we are here, loving the lifestyle, making new friends.
Our boat is called Abby Girl. She is named after our beautiful 11 year old golden retriever Abby who unfortunately passed away a few weeks before we moved from Canada. We had a sailboat in Canada and Abby would always come to the boat and supervise Dave’s many hours of puttering. She loved to cruise with us and we affectionately called our tender the Abby’s Uber.
We are enjoying our experiences at the RBYC and look forward to making many new friends. Dave plans to take up racing as crew and we both plan to become involved in volunteering. It’s nice to make RYBC part of our home.
