Review of the “Sail our way” event with Alice Parker
Those in the room on Thursday night were treated to an uplifting and energising presentation by Alice Parker, one of the most exciting young navigators in Australian sailing. Despite her age, Alice has already delivered exceptional results on some of the sport’s most competitive yachts, including Ichi Ban, Celestial, Matador and the maxi URM, which placed third on line honours in the 2023 Sydney to Hobart. Her talent was recognised when she was named the CYCA and RPAYC Navigator and Club Yachts Person of the Year in 2023.
Alice was positive, enthusiastic and exciting to listen to and from what I understand highly respected in amongst the big guns.
Growing up in the Blue Mountains, she convinced her dad to drive her to Pittwater, where she developed her skills in match racing and fleets of Etchells, MC38s and Farr 40s.
I love that she is a trained Physio, currently enrolled in a Science degree towards Meteorology and is carving a path in the professional sailing world as an ‘in demand navigator’

BUSY FRIDAY NIGHT AT THE CLUB
Last Friday before the members draw was an exciting night at the club, with the 150th Anniversary Book Launch, the presentation of trophies for the Goorangi and Eliza Ramsden trophy race – all on the same evening as the Cruising Group Progressive Dinner. What a way to cap off our 150th year.
Commodore Peter Demura introduced author and historian Don Warner, who, with along with production artist John Scanlon, spent three years on research. Don tirelessly ploughed through minute books and archives and conducted countless interviews. John scoured thousands of images and produced a modern engaging format for the book.
If you don’t have the book already you can get your copy from reception and charge it to your account. It’s a bargain at $60 with so many interesting tales.
