Australian Sailing 2025 National Awards

Last Friday night I attended the Australian Sailing Awards at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney. The awards night was to recognise those Clubs and individuals who had made a significant contribution to our sport. Several outstanding sailors were inducted into the Sailing Hall of Fame. Our Club was one of four clubs nominated for Australian Yacht Club of the Year (Group A) and Peter Coleman as Australian Para Sailor of the Year. Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club in Perth took out the yacht club honours while Chris Symonds for the Wynyard Yacht Club in Tasmania was honoured as Australian Para Sailor of the Year. We congratulate the winners. The event provided a great opportunity to see what other clubs are doing across Australia — including initiatives that are driving meaningful participation. By taking the time to understand what these leading clubs are doing well, we can identify fresh approaches and adapt them to suit our own strategy, culture and goals. This experience should provide us with impetus to innovate, refine our programs, and develop new strategies to boost engagement and foster greater involvement in yacht racing.
Wishing you fair winds and following seas and remember no bananas at sea.

The 2025 Winter event has concluded, congratulations to the Winners
Handicap Snooker Brett Lazarides
Billiards Chris Borell
Scratch Snooker Lewin Trophy Chris Borell

Brett and Chris were the instigators of the recent table refurbishment, so an outstanding result. The trophies will be engraved and presented shortly.

The next event on the table is the summer pool competition, and this will get underway with entry sheets on the board shortly, and notification in the Tuesday newsletter.

There are two competitions, singles pool snd doubles pool. Can I stress that this event is very social, and open to all classes of RBYC membership, male and female. We encourage everyone who has held a cue to enter, to increase the enjoyment and meet new faces within the Club. There is nothing like a game of pool to get to know new people within the Club.
