On the field: Collingwood proved the doubters wrong again this round when they recorded yet another close win by 7 points on Friday night. This time it came at the expense of the reigning premiers Melbourne. The Dees led by 23 points in the second quarter but after that, the Magpies chipped away until they eventually hit the front midway through the final term. There were a couple of late lead changes but Collingwood showed how good they are by beating Melbourne for the second time this season. They have moved up to second on the ladder, just one game behind Geelong - the Cats also kept their long undefeated run intact with a 45-point win over St Kilda. The Sydney Swans moved up to 4th place after a comfortable 38-point win over North Melbourne on Sunday.
|
Many of us expected the Western Bulldogs to defeat the visiting Fremantle Dockers at Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon. However, after quarter time, the Dockers kicked away and despite a late rally by the Bulldogs, the visitors won by 17 points - the loss virtually knocks the Bulldogs out of finals contention. Richmond recorded a strong win by 38 points over Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval. The win sees the Tigers move up to 8th on the ladder. Carlton is still clinging to 7th spot despite losing their third straight game today - this time by 33 points to the Brisbane Lions. In other games, GWS surprised Essendon, Adelaide won the late game in Perth by 16 points over the WCE and Hawthorn held on for a 7-point victory over the Suns in Launceston on Saturday afternoon.

Tipping: congratulations to St Lindsay, Peter G66, John Naughton and Glocka who all managed 7 winners this week to lead the way. John's consistent tipping in recent weeks has propelled him to a 2-point lead at the top of our season's leaderboard with only 2 rounds to play. Below are our top 10 tipsters.
