RBYC well represented at Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race weeks
GC member and part owner of Rampallion, Cath Hurley says “Team Brighton is very well represented. Philip Cormie’s new boat Solutions came first overall at Airlie with an RBYC crew. Other Brighton sailors have also been on the podium and are represented in other crews and everyone is enjoying some time in the sun. The southeast trades have come in so there promises to be some lively racing for the rest of the week.”

You can see from the results that it came down to the last day – any of the top three were in a position to win the regatta.

A great leadup to the Etchells Worlds being held at RBYC in January 2025.

Vale Kevin Wilson - 80-year member and Honorary Life Member
We are sorry to advise that Kevin Wilson HLM died on Friday 16/8/24. Kevin became an 80 year and HLM in May of this year. At the time there was a newsletter article reminding us that Kevin was the sole surviving member of the 1952 Australian Olympic team having sailed in the International Star Class with the late Bart Harvey. In addition to sailing in various boats over decades at the club Kevin was a very strong supporter of the cadet dinghies and was manager of a Stonehaven Cup team for three Stonehaven Cups which won each time. Kevin later built the 50ft power boat "Windara" with the late George Maxted and Michael Read, which he sailed to Hobart for a later Stonehaven series. In 1979 Windara was the series Committee boat for the very successful World E22 championships, the first world championships the club had held. Several members described Kevin as the most genuine person you could ever meet with not an enemy in the world.
