GC Report - Peter Coleman

Hello fellow members. Well, how bad has our weather been lately. Not conducive to playing boats. I was lucky enough to speak with past Commodore Peter Johns and Karen and the trusty deckhand for a couple of weeks, Susan Cassidy. They are having a splendid time in their canal boat currently in France and hoping to get into Germany. What …

Iceberger News

Melbourne weather can be a challenging changing experience and this weekend just past confirmed that. For those hardy souls that braved Saturday morning, a raging sea (50 kph gusting winds and an air temperature cold enough to make a polar bear feel at home), Sunday was a great relief. RBYC Icebergers arrived at Melbourne’s home of winter swimming at 7am …

New RBYC Honour Board

Some time ago I asked for RBYC members who have been part of a World Championship crew to make themselves known. Some of you were identified and we created an online Honour Board. We now plan to create a wooden Honour Board. There is already a historical Honour Board entitled “International Events” which is full. The new Honour Board will supplement this.
If you aren’t already identified on the online Honour Board, and you were part of a World Championship crew while a member of RBYC, please let us know.

Hi everyone, It's been another interesting week of AFL Footy with some very close games and unexpected results. On the field: Essendon had a great opportunity to consolidate their position in the top 8 when they hosted Adelaide at Marvel Stadium on Friday night. The Crows had other ideas and when they kicked 8 straight goals in the second quarter …

Club History

The above photo was taken in winter and shows the yard chocker block with boats. It was taken well before the handstand went in (1987) and possibly before the original marina was constructed in 1968. Do any of our readers know the specific year? We're interested to find out. Photo search: as part of the club's celebration of our long and storied history we are seeking old photos of the clubhouse/club grounds. There have been many changes made to our club since our first clubhouse was built in 1898.

Save the date 5/10/24

Come and celebrate the opening of a new season. A day for all club members with official ceremony in the morning, the annual sail past the Commodore and casual race followed by food and music on the deck to finish the day.
The theme this year is Under the Sea, so get dressed up in your best underwater inspired costume and you never know you might win a prize. Please register your participation.

Whats On

Around The Bay

On Sunday Commodore Niesje Hees along with GC members Murray Cowdell, Debbie Jonker and Cath Hurley attended the ORCV Marine Safety Expo hosted by Sandringham Yacht Club. The photo shows Niesje and Cath visiting the Water Police. There were terrific talks and displays by a variety of organisations we all rely on to keep us safe, including the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), the Victoria Water Police, Ports Victoria, the Air Ambulance and the Volunteer Coastguard, amongst many others. An informative and enjoyable day.
