S.M.A.R.T Series #4: Wind & Sail Trim

SMART Series Session 4 – 6:00 pm Wednesday 17 July This week’s session on “Understanding the Wind & Sail Trim” by Craig Cobbin is not one to miss. Craig is our Training Coordinator but also an experienced coach in many classes including off the beach and Etchells. Craig has coached both elite sailors and beginners with a great deal of experience in explaining the theory and practice to all levels of sailors. We had great feedback from Craig’s session for the BLiSS experience sessions earlier this year.

August:Our guest speaker for the August 16th dinner will be Cheyne O’Brien from the BOM. Cheyne is a marine specialist with the bureau, with a background in operational marine forecasting, and will present on forecasting and the science behind it, with an emphasis on the Port Phillip area. In September, we are looking to bring you a talk on chartering in the Greek Islands, while in October, we will hold the annual Progressive Dinner. Happy cruising,RBYC Cruising Group Committee.

On the day, there will be something for all ages with tours of boats, first responder vessels, air ambulance fly pasts, prominent speakers including: AMSA, Ports Victoria, Victoria Water Police, Australian Sailing, Air Ambulance, Vic Fisheries Authority, Coastguard, Boating Industry Assoc, Fire Rescue Victoria, Safe Transport Vic.

Complementing the speaker’s program will be displays from a variety of marine safety organisations covering a wide range of topics including life jacket technology, maritime careers, safety regulations, community and sustainability, and ocean racing safety and the opportunity to get up close to Port Victoria rescue craft the 12.2m MV Lonsdale to be docked in the inner harbour at SYC.

The Marine Safety Expo is to be held at Sandringham Yacht Club, Sunday July 21st from 10am – 4pm, suitable for yachties (racing and cruising), dinghy sailors, boaters, the fishing community and anyone who enjoys being on the water.
