GC Report - Neil Sargeant - Keelboat Safety
In 1986 as a recently arrived backpacker from England I managed to get a berth on a very interesting boat - a home built 38-foot Harrison Butler wishbone ketch. Back then safety didn’t seem that important, I think we had some lifejackets on board, may be a few flares, a radio that sometimes worked and that was about it. We …

David Dyring (Porge) passed away last Wednesday morning. He had been a member for some 78 years and will be sadly missed at the Club. Club Captain Marnie Irving echoed the thoughts of many when she said, “I feel privileged to have known Porge’s optimism, generosity, family spirit, and kindness.” Porge has been a maintenance employee and volunteer at Royal …

A challenging day for Race Management Teams
On Saturday the annual “flare shoot” for the first race of the ORCV winter series went well – but then the racing was challenging with very little wind. The race was started by RBYC and then finished at Sandringham. The club racing went ahead also, with light weather skills sorely tested. Well done to all RBYC boats who participated in …

On Sunday the frosty conditions suited the event perfectly – the annual Frostbite regatta, with the General Committee of RBYC trying to win the “muddy water” trophy back from RMYS, who hosted the competition this year. All that was missing was wind. The junior teams competed also, to show the seniors how it is done. Nonetheless we managed to get …

The Cruising Group’s social event for June will be the annual Frostbite Cruise, to be held over the weekend of June 29/30th, 2024. This annual cruise up the Yarra will take place on the weekend of June 29/30th, to Melbourne City Marina (Docklands) and will coincide with the Melbourne Firelight Festival. Seven RBYC boats are presently registered for the cruise. Because of heavy bookings at MCM, including a contingent from RMYS, no more berth slots are currently available. Because of the heavy bookings, the marina lounge may not be available to us Saturday night, however plans are in place for sundowners on one or more of the boats that evening. The traditional Frostbite BBQ is planned for Sunday lunchtime and will be the Cruising Group’s social event for June. All are welcome to come and join the BBQ on Sunday, whether you get there by boat, car or train. If you would still like to bring your boat and are not yet registered for the Cruise, perhaps phone MCM closer to the date in case of any cancellations. …

REPORT ROUND 15
On the field: Both Carlton and Geelong were coming off a bye, but the Blues were the ones to hit the ground running. They led by six goals at halftime, and a nine-goal final term saw the margin blow out to 63 points. It was an impressive, percentage-boosting win, which keeps the Blues in second spot on the ladder. On …

What this dish means to Jess:
Cooking this traditional cuisine brings me back to our memories back home having food fresh from ocean and farm to the table. It's something we enjoy to share with family and friends not only on special occasions but anytime of the day. This stew can be cooked on different varieties of meat and vegetables or whatever is in season.
