GC Report

Staying alive in winter! I recently attended an excellent winter safety briefing organised by our Iceberger members in the lead up to winter. There was a reminder about the risks of hypothermia and how to detect it in others and the need to swim, sail or kayak with others, and ensure someone knows you’re going out. It’s a long time …

CLUB ACCESS FROM 13TH MAY

From the 13th May access to the club will change while we renovate the facade and driveway
Pedestrian access: This will be either from the beach or via the vehicle entrance at the council car park . Then make your way to the doors past the Gym.
Vehicle Access. Entry and exit will be via the boom gate at the council car park. All vehicles entering must head up the ramp (access to lower car parks will be via the upper car park). To exit there is a button mounted to the wall of the sturrock building which will lift the boom gate. Exiting vehicles must give way to entering vehicles and pedestrians

Also a big thank you to David Williamson for installing a handrail on the carpark wall to assist pedestrian access.

Pursuit Race Starts

A reminder to all competitors who sail in Pursuit races that there are restrictions on crossing the start line prior to each boat's start time. The reason for this is that the RO in the Tower must check each boat as it crosses the line to ensure that they have started at their correct start time, and this is difficult enough with a larger fleet, but even more difficult if boats are "practicing" their start. The relevant Sailing Instruction states:
12.3. Boats racing in ‘Pursuit’ race shall not cross the start line between the Warning Signal and one (1) minute prior to their start time. Boats that fail to comply may be scored DNS without a hearing.
And for the purposes of pursuit races, you should have your engine turned off 4 minutes prior to your start time. Although the rules state that the engine should be turned off from the "Warning Signal", it is generally understood that a pseudo "Warning Signal" for each boat is four minutes prior to their actual start time, not four minutes prior to the first boat's start time.

Hard Stand clean up

The club will be disposing of any unclaimed aluminum from the hard stand. It you have anything out there, EG booms and masts, either behind the containers or hanging on rails and you want to keep them you need to contact Colin in the sailing office before the 22nd May.
