Vessel of the Month

The current SCHUSS is the replacement for the previous SCHUSS a Beneteau First 45 which was written off after being struck by lightning and burnt in January 2022. Denis won the Commodores Award for his services to RBYC and commitment to sailing. Schuss sails with a crew of 8 and is proving to be competitive. Schuss is a very different yacht to sail from the First 45 being light displacement and with an asymmetric spinnaker. In 1997 Chris and Denis purchased their first keel boat a Beneteau First Class 12 and called it SCHUSS. "The SCHUSS name is a reflection of our family’s keen participation in snow skiing over 60 years". Denis’s passion for sailing started in 1964 when his then girlfriend Chris (now wife) invited him to come sailing in her sister's Moth. Denis and Chris have sailed a Flying Junior at Elwood, Seaway 25 at RMYS, J24 at RBYC before the first SCHUSS.

2025 Lipton Cup Regatta, 14-16 November
Matt Fahey, Rear Commodore Sailing at RYCV, will join us this Friday evening for our Members Draw to personally invite all of our skippers and crew to join RYCV for the 2025 Lipton Cup Regatta, which is scheduled for the weekend of 14-16 November. The Lipton Cup Regatta honours the trophy presented to RYCV in 1907 by Sir Thomas Lipton for the purpose of promoting spirited competition and comradery amongst all yacht clubs on Port Phillip and this year will be the 17th version of this prestigious regatta since its revival in 2006.
Matt will provide an overview of the multi-division format for keelboat and OTB competitors, and will be available to answer any questions you may have. Make sure you join us on Friday night to learn more, and let's see if RBYC can be well represented at northern Port Phillip's premier regatta.
