On the field: the round kicked off with a low-scoring game between Richmond-Fremantle at Marvel Stadium. The Tigers looked like they might finally win a close match but managed to snatch a draw from the jaws of victory. It was a weird ending to the game and incredible to realize that there was no scoring at all during the final 8 minutes of this game. By comparison, the Bulldogs vs Demons game on Saturday night had lots of scoring late in the game and an exciting finish. The Doggies moved back into the top 8 while exacting revenge on Melbourne after last year's Grand Final fade-out. Jamarra Ugle-Hagen booted a career-best 5 goals and stood tall for the Bulldogs in the final quarter.
In other games on Saturday, Geelong withstood a late fightback from hosts Port Adelaide to win by 2 goals and remain one game clear at the top of the table. The Gold Coast Suns provided the Brisbane Lions with a stern test, but the Lions emerged victorious by 17 points. The Hawks made it three straight with a 46-point win over North Melbourne in Launceston - only 9713 spectators were in attendance. Sydney recorded a solid 33-point win over the Adelaide Crows at the SCG.
In the Sunday games, St Kilda won a 'must' game in Perth over the West Coast Eagles by 28 points - the win pushes the Saints up to 9th on the ladder, just behind the Bulldogs on percentage. Carlton took until the final term to shake off a challenge from GWS to remain in 7th spot. The most exciting game of the round occurred at the MCG between old foes Collingwood-Essendon. In a game of fluctuating fortunes, the Magpies stormed home in the final quarter to erase a 21-point deficit and claim a famous 4-point victory with a straight kick as the final siren sounded from way out on the boundary by Jamie Elliott. Collingwood had dominated the opening quarter to lead by 37 points at the first change. Essendon took charge in the second & third quarters to open up a 14-point lead at the final change. When the Bombers kicked the opening goal of the final term Collingwood was staring down the barrel, but as they have done a number of times over the last two months, the Maggies rallied in magnificent fashion. They kicked the final four goals of the game to win yet another game by less than a kick - the win has moved them into the top 4.

Tipping: all of us who placed a tip for Friday night's drawn game are given a 'win' by the espn site. For the remaining 8 games of the round, we had 4 tipsters who tipped all of those games correctly. Congratulations to LennyHayesisGod, Claridges, AmanderIceberger and Botony who recorded perfect scores. Congrats to Lennyhayes (Peter Jackson) who wins a $20.00 dining credit at the club for being the closest on the margin amongst those 4 tipsters. Well done!
The overall leaderboard remains very close. Our Pies London Fan (Richard Fullarton) has regained top spot by virtue of his terrific margin - he is tied with 3 others on total tips.
