New feature on Race Results App

As there are a number of clubs now using the system, quite a few people are now linked to multiple clubs. On your phone menu, if you are linked to multiple clubs, there is a new menu item to swap or delete clubs. You can select another club, or drop the other club if no longer required.

And so that people know which club they are logged onto, the system now shows the club abbreviation in the heading.

VXOnes Travelling

Three VXOne crews from RBYC travelled to Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club to compete in the NSW States ahead of the Nationals, being sailed in January at the same venue. Well done Lucas Cooper, Jan Talacko and Peter Jackson and their crews for making the trip and all the best for January.

Etchells Christmas Cup

The David Lawrance trophy, also known as the Etchells Christmas Cup is usually the two weekends of club racing before the holiday break. This year it was run as a three day regatta, with 22 local and visiting boats trying out the racetrack ahead of the 2025 Etchells World Championship. We were so lucky with the weather! Friday was a bit choppy and challenging but great racing, while Saturday and Sunday saw beautiful 8-15 knot southerlies. The Worlds length races meant crews were certainly weary at the end of the day. Participants praised the Race Management Team, with PRO Paul Pascoe, Dean Robson seconded from Sandringham and the regular skilled group of RBYC volunteers. They also commented on the welcoming atmosphere at the club - thanks to the Sailing Office, restaurant staff and club members. Rear Commodore Cath Hurley presented the prizes, with the current World Champions, Magpie, winning the regatta. Second went to the Sydney team First Tracks and third to Geelong boat Tiger.

Cruising News

Our first event of 2025 will the annual Cruising Group Birthday Cruise to RYCV in Williamstown, to be held on Sunday 19th January. for. This will be our 34th such cruise to Royals, which was first held in 1991 as the inaugural event of the then newly formed RBYC Cruising Group.
The 2025 Bass Strait Cruise is scheduled for Sat Feb 22nd to Monday March 10th 2025. At this stage, five Brighton boats and two Sandringham boats have expressed interest in participating, with a few more possibles.
The emphasis of this “Cruise in Company” is on having fun, and the camaraderie and safety of being in the company of other boats. This cruise is a great opportunity for less experienced skippers/crews to gain experience in the company of more experienced skippers and crews, and to visit locations beyond the usual Bay locations. Social events take place along the way, including the annual Cruising Group Bocce championship, Klopp competitions, and a themed BBQ. We welcome sailing and power boats to join in and participate.
Depending on the weather, the fleet may decide to head west from Port Phillip Heads to destinations such as Apollo Bay, and then perhaps on to King Island and to NW Tasmania. Alternatively, if the wind is in the other direction, then the fleet may decide to head east to Wilsons Promontory and locations such as Refuge Cove and Corner inlet, and then possibly on to Deal Island and /or Flinders Island. Where we go, and when, is very weather dependent (and there have been a one or two years when the fleet has not left Port Phillip Bay because of the weather conditions and forecast).
