Etchells Nationals at Metung – a wonderful prelude to the Melbourne Worlds at RBYC
It was everything you would want a regatta to be – a variety of conditions, and Race Officers Ross and Kevin Wilson gave the competitors nine terrific races over four days. Metung hospitality is renowned and lived up to its reputation. Congratulations to all competitors but especially to the Jukes of Hazard team of Brendon Jukes, Michael O’Brien, Nigel Jones and Owen McMahon. This recently formed team sailed brilliantly, achieving 8th place. The regatta was won by current World Champion Graeme Taylor in Magpie. A close second was Hong Kong sailor Mark Thornburrow in Racer CC, with Jack Abbot’s youth crew on Lisa Rose rounding out the podium. These teams will also be competing at the Melbourne Worlds – excitement is building for this event.
Here is a link to some terrific drone footage from Day 1 by Terry Calley. One new feature of this event was the use of the Vakaros Racesense system, which gives competitors immediate notification if they are OCS (over early at the start). This helped prevent general recalls – all nine races were sailed under P flag.

You can see the full results at the regatta page - and plenty of great coverage from Jeanette Severs on the Metung Facebook page

Congratulations to Past Commodore David Goetze
Those who attended the September lunch for “30 plus” year members very much enjoyed the presentation by past Commodore David Goetze, the guest speaker for the event. David reflected on his yachting background and the club’s history with reference to many well-known boats and sailors. Everyone in the room could relate to at least some of the stories and memories.
It was terrific to see David’s contribution to the sport of Sailing officially recognised by Australian Sailing at the recent National Awards night, where he was announced as the winner of the esteemed President’s Award. This prestigious honour is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the Australian Sailing community over a long period of time. David’s unwavering commitment and outstanding service to the sport have left a lasting impact. David is pictured receiving his award from the President of Australian Sailing Shevaun Bruland and Immediate past President Alistair Murray.
