Opening Day sustainable costume ideas – Under the Sea
Many members have been talking about how to make their Opening Day Costumes more sustainable by using what they already have around the house (rather than buying more stuff), Those who frequent a lot of fancy-dress parties may have suitable items they have acquired over the years.. I’m sure many of us have wetsuits, googles, snorkels – and your mop might make a good algae headpiece!
Looking forward to a great day on and off the water – don’t forget to register!

GRAND FINAL DAY - Sat Sept 28

Join us in the Member's bar for an afternoon of fun watching Sydney Swan vs Brisbane Lions. Half time party pies, first goal kicker and Norm Smith medal sweeps. Bar Opens 12 noon.

Australian Sailing Victorian Awards

The Australian Sailing awards night held at Sandringham Yacht Club on Friday was a great chance to meet friends from other clubs. Coverage can be found on the Australian Sailing Vic facebook page.

Congratulations to all the nominees including those from RBYC. RBYC member Peter Coleman was awarded 2024 Para Sailor of the Year. From the facebook page…
Peter Coleman has had an impressive year in the 2.4mR class, securing top 5 finishes at the Australian Championships and the Victorian Para Championships. His dedication to encouraging new sailors and fostering inclusivity at Royal Brighton Yacht Club makes him a standout in the para sailing community.

Peter competed in the Finnish Nationals in 2023 (coming 1st in Paras), the 2.4m 2023 Worlds in Finland (4th in Paras) and the 2023 World Para Championships in Amsterdam 2023 (coming 11TH).

Peter has a para sailing classification of sailing “B3 vision impaired”. Visually Impaired Sailors are classified by into three groups which are effectively in simple terms: B1: No functional sight. B2: Poor partial sight. B3: No more than 10% functional sight. Along with other para sailors at RBYC, Peter is committed to educating all of us about how para sailing works, and how to support para sailing at the club.

The results system has now been setup for all races up to the end of 2024 and it is now time for boat owners to enter the series in which they wish to compete. In particular it is important that owners enter any pursuit races or series so that we can allocate start times in advance. And please only enter the series that you do intend to sail so that our results accurately reflect the entries for the series.
You can enter club races either from the club’s phone app, or on your PC.

Hansa Vic States at Lysterfield Lake - RBYC members racing and volunteering

RBYC Principal Race Officer Rod McKenna went further afield this past weekend, acting as PRO for the Hansa Vic States at Lysterfield Lake, assisted by Murray Cowdell on RB19. RBYC was represented on the race track as well, by Alison Weatherly in the 303 class, and Peter Coleman and Charlie Weatherly in the Liberty class. What a lovely location – several club members went to watch over the weekend. The photos show Rod presenting Alison with her third place in the 303 class, and Peter in his Liberty on the water. Royal Brighton Yacht Club was awarded the Dr Alan Rose Shield in recognition of their support for the event. More coverage is on the Lysterfield Lake Sailing Club Facebook page.
