Day 4 was a lay day. This did not mean the kids were resting! Instead they were off cycling, riding on the donut and visiting the Bay of Fires before we all gathered for a BBQ at the caravan park.
Day 5 started with a strong wind warning change. The morning presented strong gusty winds 14 knots steady with 25 knot gusts and misty conditions.
Results of heat 7:
- It was very trying conditions for all competitors managing wind shifts and heavy gusts. Some competitors DNF. 1472 John Akhurst, Jett Pearson and crew were the first RBYC competitor to cross the finish line.
The afternoon was light with gusting conditions.
Results of heat 8:
- Expecting strong afternoon winds, the RBYC team reefed mainsails. 1059 Harmony, Fergus Stewart and crew were the first RBYC competitor to cross the finish line.
Results of heat 9:
- This race followed a similar pattern to heat 8 with 1059 Harmony, Fergus Stewart and crew leading the RBYC contingent.
Patrick Walby, RMYS, sailing Scarlett completed the day’s racing with a 1st in heat 7 and 8 and a 5th in heat 9. They now lead the series with 27 points and 1 heat remaining. After a cold wet and windy day all competitors went home to catch up on some much needed sleep before tomorrow’s final race and presentation evening.
