A fleet of 37 boats competed at this year’s Etchells Worlds Titles in Corpus Christi, Texas.

It may have been a smaller fleet than usual for an event of this kind, but the level of the sailors involved was nothing but world-class, with the likes of Iain Murray and Tom Slingsby, just to name a couple.

Member Chris Hampton, with Sam Haines and Charlie Cumbley as his crew, flew the RBYC burgee on Tango (AUS1466) over by the Lone Star State.

Throughout the 5-day regatta and the 9 races competed, the team managed some very impressive results, granting them 4th overall, just shy of the podium.

Aussies at large dominated the event: Iain Murray, onboard Havoc (AUS1461) took the honours, in an extremely tight competition with Graeme Taylor on Magpie (AUS1447), who managed to win the last 5 races.

RBYC congratulates Chris and his crew for their amazing results, and the whole Etchells fleet who competed in this world-class event.

RBYC will be running the 2020 Australian Etchells Nationals and the 2023 Etchells Worlds, and we cannot overstate our excitement in hosting some of the world’s best sailors.
