Our 2019 European trip is done and dusted. It was a long 10 weeks on tour but super happy with our progress in the 49er FX working towards Olympic qualification. We were recently selected to represent the Australian sailing team at the 2020 Olympic Test event while is a big step forward! Very excited!

I and my crew Jaime Ryan competed in Spain, Italy and the UK. Over 3 regattas, our European championships was our major peak event. It was our best performance finishing 11th overall, but just missing out of the top 10 medal race. This event was based in Weymouth, two hours from London which was much colder than sailing at home in the middle of May! Despite the cold, the sailing conditions were fantastic! We had races in 25 knots to races in 5 knots which is helful to be tested in a range of conditions against the worlds best.

Next trip we are determined to make it comfortably into the medal races and work towards a medal!

For now, it’s back to Sydney for a big winter training block, then we head over to Japan for the Olympic Test Event and a World Cup event which is one of a few Olympic qualification events.
