The Victorian 420 association held its annual Flinders Camp last week-end. A total of 24 young sailors, many of whom RBYC members, attended the this beautiful 2-day event, now on its sixth consecutive year.
The camp is perfectly structured to both provide great training to the participants and facilitate interactions and building friendships among all the Victorian teams.
Adrian Finglas, our very own Club Coach, lead the weekend of coaching down there, along with RBYC members James Grogan and Sophie Jackson, assisting with the different groups. Adrian was the obvious choice for a camp like this, having competed and coached at the highest level in the class for decades.
Volunteers were pivotal to the success of the camp: RBYC parents Tim Grogan, Mark and Yulia Cripsey, Jan Talacko and Owen McMahon all had their work cut out cooking and preparing meals for the whole team of sailors and coaches, and certainly didn’t disappoint!
Some of the more senior 420 teams also had the opportunity to confront some big waves out in the open ocean, conditions were quite hairy both days but all sailors handled them pretty well across the board.
Well done to all the sailors who participated in this incredible event, and stay tuned because there might soon be similar events running off Royal Brighton Yacht Club 😉
