An update from Australian Sailing Team and RBYC member Tess Lloyd and her crew Jaime Ryan on their Summer of racing, Miami and whats next for the duo.
After a busy and successful summer in Australia training and racing, we feel like things are on track for Olympic selection.
My crew Jaime Ryan and I were training hard over winter to win Sail Sydney on the Harbour with a range of conditions. We spend many hours training in Sydney at our National Training Centre, so it was rewarding to put it all into practice in a racing environment.
I was finally able to spend some time at home for International Sail Melbourne regatta at RBYC. It was so enjoyable to compete on home waters at my yacht club, and especially winning the regatta, again with some crazy weather as always.
For more recent news, we have just returned from Miami this February where we competed at our first World Cup event of the year. It was quite a short regatta due to a lack of wind for the week which seems to be a pattern each time we go to Miami, but it was great to get amongst the worlds best 49er Fx sailors. We had some tough results but some positive ones too. The regatta highlighted some areas we can take forward with us as we begin racing in March in Europe. We will have three regattas this season in Europe. Beginning in Spain then to Italy and lastly to the UK for our Europeans, which will be quite an important regatta for us.
Looking forward to what’s to come, and great to have RBYC on the journey with me.
Please come and say hello when I am in Melbourne training at the club. I am so proud of all the young sailors training around me.
